Weekend Out West

There’s nothing quite like a weekend escape to the California coast, and when that escape includes golf, ocean views, and some relaxing downtime, it’s even better. This past weekend, my wife and I headed out west to the stunning Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes—a place where rugged cliffs meet the Pacific, and where golf and relaxation blend seamlessly.

Friday: A Coastal Welcome & Rolling Some Putts

After checking in Friday afternoon, we took a moment to soak in the panoramic ocean views from our patio. The cool sea breeze and the sound of crashing waves immediately set the tone for a weekend of laid-back luxury. But, of course, I had to get a club in my hands.

Terranea’s putting course is a hidden gem. Before heading to my work happy hour, I rolled a few putts on the beautifully manicured greens, getting a feel for the speed and slope. The course is a great way to warm up the touch before tackling the resort’s short course—or just to unwind with a drink in hand. After sinking a few putts (and missing a few more), I made my way to the happy hour, where the cocktails and company made for a perfect end to the first day.

Saturday: Par 3 Perfection & Oceanfront Drinks

Saturday morning started with a casual breakfast overlooking the ocean before heading out with a few coworkers for a round on The Links at Terranea, the resort’s stunning par-3 course. Unlike a traditional executive course, this nine-hole layout is designed to test every part of your short game, with dramatic elevation changes and breathtaking Pacific backdrops.

Each hole presents a unique challenge, from tricky greens to well-placed bunkers that punish anything less than precision. It’s the kind of course where you can carry just a few wedges and a putter and still walk away feeling like you played a full round. And let’s be honest—when you’re staring at an ocean backdrop on every tee box, it’s hard to feel too bad about a missed shot.

After wrapping up our round and sharing a few laughs over who had the best (and worst) shots of the day, it was time to switch gears. My wife and I made our way a few miles down the coast to Trump National Golf Club Los Angeles—not for another round, but for a post-golf drink at their clubhouse, which arguably boasts one of the best oceanfront views in Southern California. With the sun setting over the Pacific, we raised a glass to a day well spent.

A Weekend to Remember

Some weekends are about pushing the limits, but this one was all about balance—golf, relaxation, and soaking up the California coast. Terranea Resort delivered on every front, offering a perfect mix of golf-centric fun and well-earned relaxation. Whether it was rolling putts with a view, playing a quick but challenging round, or unwinding with my wife as the sun set over the Pacific, it was a weekend to remember.

If you ever find yourself looking for a golf escape where the ocean meets the fairway, put Terranea on your list. You won’t regret it.
